Kamara ran the show in Crew SC’s 2-1 win against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night, notching both goals – his fifth brace of the season – to bump Columbus into third place in the Eastern Conference standings (9-8-7, 34 points). With the two tallies, the red-hot forward leapfrogged Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco in the MLS Golden Boot race, which he now leads with 17 goals. This marks the Sierra Leonean international’s second Player of the Week nod this season.
Columbus was held scoreless into the second half, but in the 52nd minute and down a goal, Kamara took matters into his own hands and found the equalizer. Crew SC midfielder Tony Tchani shuffled a perfect pass between three defenders to connect with Kamara, who crushed a one-touch, left-footed shot past Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin to even the score at 1-1 (watch goal).
Columbus Crew SC returns to MLS action on Wednesday, August 19, when it hosts New York City FC at MAPFRE Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET (MLS LIVE).
