President of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) Eric Dura Sesay is still hopeful of Sierra Leone’s participation in the 17th edition of the African Championship Boxing in Casablanca, Morocco.
The tournament which will run from 16th to 24th August is expected to attract over 22 African countries with over 139 boxers set to compete.
“This is a tournament we must attend so we are working relentlessly to send athree man delegations which will include two boxers and an official,” Dura Sesay said.
The African championship will serve as qualifiers for the world championships in Doha, scheduled for October and notable nations that will compete in this year’s tournament include host nation Morocco, Egypt, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Chad, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Mauritius Island, Kenya, Niger, Nigeria, Sudan, Swaziland, South Africa, Algeria, Tanzania and Tunisia.
The 1st Vice-President of the Moroccan Boxing Federation (AFBC) Loumani Mohamed told journalist in a press conference in Morocco that the event which will be held for the second time in Morocco aims to promote African boxing.
