Bafana Bafana are on their way to Costa Rica

​5 October 2015 – The South African Men’s Senior National Team has left for Costa Rica via Sao Paolo in Brazil.

Bafana Bafana left earlier this morning (Monday, 5 October).

The initial plan was for the squad to leave in two groups, with the first scheduled for yesterday (Sunday, 4 October) via Atlanta, Georgia in the United States of America, but had to reschedule after receiving new information regarding visas.

​“Our hosts, who were making all the travel bookings, had informed us that we did not need visas as we would be in transit for a few hours in Atlanta. But upon arriving at the OR Tambo International Airport to check in, new information surfaced that in fact that was not the case and we would need visas as soon as we touched US soil – regardless of whether we are in transit or not,” said Dominic Chimhavi, SAFA Head of Communications.

But the latest arrangement is actually a blessing in disguise because instead of the team travelling in two batches, we are now travelling as one group via Brazil.”

Bafana Bafana are expected to arrive in Costa Rica on Tuesday morning (6 October).

South Africa faces the host nation (Costa Rica) on Thursday, 8 October in Liberia at the Baltodano Bricenio Stadium.

Kick-off is at 04h00 SA time on Friday, 9 October.

On Tuesday they will be in San Pedro Sula to take on Honduras at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Kick-off is at 00h00 SA time.
