CAF opens new bidding window for African club football broadcast rights

ASVG Media | The Confederation of African Football has formally launched a new media-rights tender covering its flagship club competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa. The package includes the 2026–2028 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, the 2027 and 2028 CAF Super Cup, and the 2027 and 2028 CAF Women's Champions League. CAF is offering Sub-Saharan English-language pay-TV and local-language rights alongside free-to-air rights in all languages. Middle East and North Africa territories and French-speaking pay-TV rights are excluded. Bids close November 11 at 17:00 Cairo time. No financial valuation or successful bidder has been announced.

The tender is commercially significant because it provides an opportunity to reassess how African football reaches consumers through traditional television, free-to-air distribution and potentially digital services, subject to the tender terms. For ASVG, the immediate opportunity is intelligence gathering around production, distribution and secondary content partnerships. For ASM, the story provides a strong foundation for an investigation into the future of African club football broadcasting, especially the commercial position of women's football within the rights package.

Commercial opportunity: Approach CAF's media sales department for the tender documentation and determine whether ancillary content, highlights or digital distribution opportunities are available to smaller media partners.
