The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed Samson Adamu as its General Secretary, following approval by the Executive Committee and a recruitment process that included public advertising and interviews. Announced November 1, the appointment formalizes Adamu's position after serving in an acting capacity since March 2026. He joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions and later served as Director of Tournaments and Events, overseeing major continental competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations.
The appointment is significant for African football's commercial administration. As General Secretary, Adamu will oversee CAF's daily operations and implementation of strategic priorities at a time when the confederation faces growing expectations around tournament delivery, governance, media rights, sponsorship, financial accountability and long-term commercial development. For African clubs, federations, broadcasters and investors, administrative continuity and transparent execution will be critical to strengthening confidence in the continent's football business.
