The National Women’s Soccer League has expanded its partnership with Roku, making the Roku Sports Channel the exclusive streaming home of eight Sunday night matches for the remainder of the 2026 season and 25 Sunday night matches in 2027. The games will be available free through The Roku Channel across Roku devices, mobile platforms, connected TVs and other supported devices, giving the NWSL a broad ad-supported distribution outlet.
The move reinforces a critical women’s-sports strategy: increasing reach and discoverability can sometimes be more valuable than maximizing short-term subscription revenue. Roku says its platform reaches more than half of U.S. streaming households, giving the NWSL another major route to casual fans and sponsors. For African women’s football, this model is especially relevant—free digital access can be used strategically to build audience scale first, creating stronger sponsorship and future media-rights value later.
