Aston Villa have reached agreement with West Ham for DR Congo international Aaron Wan-Bissaka, providing the afternoon’s strongest African-related transfer development. The Guardian reports that Villa have agreed to take the 28-year-old right-back on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent, after an initial straight-loan proposal was rejected by West Ham. Separate reporting says the defender is heading toward his medical, with West Ham having valued him at around £25 million.
The move would return Wan-Bissaka to the Premier League immediately following West Ham’s relegation and provide Aston Villa with experienced competition for Matty Cash as the club prepares for Champions League football. From an African perspective, Wan-Bissaka’s status as a DR Congo international who featured at the 2026 World Cup makes this a particularly notable diaspora transfer. Because Villa had not issued their final player unveiling at publication, ASVG Media is classifying the transaction as deal agreed medical-completion stage rather than officially signed.
