Cameroon’s first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title came on a night when the competition also reached a new commercial milestone. CAF confirmed that the August 16 final was distributed live in markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland and parts of South America, alongside extensive coverage across Africa through partners including Canal+ and SuperSport. Cameroon then defeated Malawi 3-0 in Rabat to become only the fourth nation to win WAFCON.
The commercial significance is considerable. WAFCON is no longer simply an African television property: wider international distribution creates stronger audience data, sponsor exposure and future rights leverage, particularly in diaspora markets. CAF had already expanded the tournament to 16 teams, and the 2026 edition carried $1 million in prize money for the champion, reinforcing the steady professionalization of African women’s football as both a sporting and commercial asset
