Cameroon are champions of African women’s football for the first time after defeating Malawi 3–0 in the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. Marie Ngah delivered the defining performance with goals in the 20th and 45+3 minutes, while Naomi Ndjoah Eto struck in the 30th minute as the Indomitable Lionesses effectively settled the championship before halftime. The victory finally erased the pain of Cameroon’s three previous WAFCON final defeats and made them only the fourth nation to lift the continental title, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa. Their path to the crown was equally impressive: Cameroon eliminated 10-time champions Nigeria, survived hosts Morocco on penalties and completed the knockout rounds without conceding a goal before producing their most clinical attacking performance when the trophy was on the line.

Yet beyond Cameroon’s deserved celebration, Malawi leave Morocco having authored one of the great breakthrough stories in WAFCON history. The Scorchers arrived at their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and proceeded to turn a debut appearance into a journey all the way to the continental final, becoming the first Southern African debutants to reach the championship match. Powered throughout the tournament by the brilliance of sisters Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga, Malawi entered the final as WAFCON’s leading scorers with 12 goals and had stunned Algeria 3–1 in the semifinals. Cameroon’s experience and defensive discipline ultimately proved a hurdle too far, but the final score should not diminish what Malawi accomplished. From tournament newcomers to African finalists in a single campaign, the Scorchers have announced themselves as a new force in African women’s football and given Malawi a historic platform upon which to build. Cameroon take home the trophy, but Malawi leave Rabat with their place in African football history firmly established.
