Chief Michael Shamsu Mustapha (Dr) has been appointed Consultant and Adviser to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Sports, bringing extensive regional leadership and institutional experience to the government’s effort to reform and strengthen the country’s sports sector. Mustapha currently serves as Secretary General and CEO of the African Union Sports Council Region 2 for West Africa, Co-Chair of the Commonwealth Group on Indigenous and Traditional Games, and President of the African Traditional Sports and Games Confederation. His appointment provides the ministry with access to a substantial network of sports organizations, policymakers and potential development partners.
The appointment comes as Sierra Leone works to develop new regulations, align its national sports policy and reposition sport as an economic sector capable of supporting employment, investment and sustainable development. Mustapha pledged his full support to the minister and government, describing the opportunity to help harness the country’s sporting potential as an honor.
