Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are moving closer to staging their long-awaited all-British heavyweight showdown at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, with December 11 reportedly targeted for a Netflix broadcast. The proposed fight is valued at close to $200 million (£151 million), potentially delivering the largest paydays of both fighters’ careers after six years of unsuccessful negotiations. Although contracts have reportedly been signed with the event’s Saudi backers, the date and venue still await final confirmation. Netflix had pushed for New York to maximize U.S. prime-time viewing, but Joshua’s contractual insistence on a United Kingdom contest shifted negotiations back across the Atlantic.
Cardiff’s approximately 74,000-seat Principality Stadium has emerged ahead of Wembley because its retractable roof and greater scheduling flexibility could accommodate an early-morning British start aligned with American prime time. Commercially, the proposed event illustrates how streaming platforms are reshaping the geography and timing of global sport: the fight may remain in Britain, but its production, schedule and economics are being designed around an international digital audience.
