FIBA has signed a three-year exclusive immersive live-rights agreement with L1VE covering the FIBA 3x3 World Tour, Women’s Series and World Cup. The deal introduces what FIBA describes as a new class of media rights built around social presence, giving fans a more interactive way to experience events in real time alongside traditional television and streaming coverage.
Commercially, this is significant because rights holders are beginning to carve out new digital inventory without replacing their core broadcast packages. Immersive rights can potentially create additional licensing revenue, richer fan data and new sponsor activation opportunities while extending live-event engagement beyond the arena. African federations and emerging competitions should watch this closely: the next generation of media-rights value may come not just from television and streaming, but from separately monetized interactive, social and immersive experiences.
