By ASVG Media Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi has been named Africa Sports Ventures Group’s African Athlete of the Month for July 2026 after a sensational month that firmly established the Nigerian sprinter among the elite of the global 100 metres. Ajayi captured two Diamond League victories during July, running an identical 9.84 seconds on both occasions and, significantly, defeating reigning world champion Oblique Seville in both races.
His first statement came at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on July 4 before he reproduced the feat at the London Diamond League on July 18—turning what could have been viewed as one breakthrough performance into compelling evidence of his consistency at the highest level. Ajayi emerged from an exceptionally strong African field that included Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, Botswana 400m star Busang Collen Kebinatshipi and several of Africa’s leading performers from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ultimately, however, two victories, two 9.84s and two wins over the reigning world champion gave the Nigerian the edge. His July campaign was more than a breakout month—it was an announcement that another African sprinter has arrived among the fastest men on the planet.
