ASVG Media — MultiChoice, now part of CANAL+, is launching SuperSport Swahili, a dedicated 24-hour Kiswahili sports channel serving Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Available on DStv channel 216, GOtv channel 570 and the DStv App, the service brings selected Premier League, UEFA, LaLiga and other football matches to East African audiences with local-language commentary and studio programming. The channel also includes Diamond League athletics and marathons. In Kenya, the announced DStv Sports package costs KSh3,000 monthly. The launch coincides with DStv's broader subscription-package restructuring, previously announced in October.
The move is commercially significant ahead of the 2027 AFCON tournament scheduled for Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Language localization offers broadcasters opportunities to strengthen audience loyalty, sell regional advertising and develop original sports programming. For African Sports Monthly, this is a potential opening for East African editorial syndication, interviews and documentary production. For ASVG, it demonstrates the importance of packaging sporting properties for distinct linguistic and regional audiences rather than relying on one pan-African distribution format.
