The Indian Super League has appointed Karan Yadav as CEO as the competition transitions to a fundamentally different club-led operating structure. Yadav, previously Chief Commercial Officer at JSW Sports, will oversee the league's strategic, commercial and organizational direction and work directly with clubs, broadcasters, sponsors and the All India Football Federation. Most significantly, under the restructured model ISL clubs collectively hold the league's commercial rights while the AIFF retains administrative oversight, giving clubs a much more direct economic stake in growing the competition.

That structural change deserves attention across African football. Many leagues struggle because the organizations responsible for generating audiences, developing players and carrying operating costs are disconnected from meaningful participation in league-level commercial growth. The ISL is attempting to align those incentives by giving clubs greater ownership of the economic platform while retaining federation governance. Yadav's immediate challenge will be converting that structure into stronger broadcasting, sponsorship, fan engagement and sustainable club economics. African leagues considering commercialization reform should watch closely: distributing commercial ownership can potentially turn clubs from recipients of league revenue into active partners in building the value of the entire competition.
