The new ownership group behind the Los Angeles Lakers is telling prospective investors that one of sport's most famous franchises could be worth at least $30 billion by 2037, according to an investor presentation prepared by Thrive Capital and reviewed by the Wall Street Journal. The group led by Joshua Kushner and Bob Iger acquired the Lakers last month at a record $12.5 billion valuation. The investment case reportedly projects annual revenue climbing from about $681 million in 2026 to at least $1.6 billion within a decade, with television and streaming-rights values expected to roughly double.

The assumptions reveal where sophisticated investors believe the next generation of sports value will come from: media rights, premium ticketing, sponsorship, direct fan monetization and tighter commercial management of globally recognized IP. A $30 billion Lakers valuation would represent approximately 2.4 times the record purchase valuation in little more than a decade. African investors and rights holders should pay attention not because African clubs can presently command Lakers economics, but because the valuation logic is transferable: sports assets become dramatically more valuable when audiences can be systematically converted into recurring media, sponsorship, hospitality and consumer revenue.
