More time given to recognize the women helping shape the future of African sport

The management of the 50 Most Influential African Women in Sports (50MIA) has announced an extension of the nomination period for its 2026 recognition program to September 15, 2026, following requests from members of the public and stakeholders across the African sports community for additional time to submit deserving candidates. With interest continuing to grow, 50MIA has elected to respond to the public demand and provide a final opportunity to nominate exceptional women whose leadership, achievement, innovation and influence are helping move the sports sector into a new era in the 21st century. Nominations are being welcomed across a broad range of categories, including Athletes; Sports Administration & Governance; Coaching & Technical Leadership; Sports Business & Entrepreneurship; Media, Journalism & Broadcasting; Sports Marketing, Sponsorship & Communications; Technology & Innovation; Sports Medicine, Science, Health & Performance; Academia, Research & Education; Community & Grassroots Development; Sports Law & Athlete Representation; Government & Public Policy; and Advocacy, Social Impact & Development.
The 50MIA initiative seeks to look beyond visibility alone and recognize women doing consequential work throughout the entire sports ecosystem—from those competing on the field of play to the executives, administrators, entrepreneurs, innovators, journalists, coaches, policymakers and community leaders building the structures around it. As African sport enters a period of extraordinary transformation and increasing global relevance, the women driving that progress deserve to be identified, celebrated and given a larger platform. September 15 will now serve as the final deadline for nominations, after which the selection process will move forward toward identifying the 2026 class of the 50 Most Influential African Women in Sports, celebrating women whose work is not only changing sport today but helping define what African sport can become tomorrow.
