FIFA has unveiled the complete 64-match schedule for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027, placing Rio de Janeiro’s legendary Estádio do Maracanã at the heart of the tournament by selecting it to host both the opening match and the Final. Hosts Brazil will begin their campaign at the Maracanã on June 24, before continuing group play in São Paulo on June 29 and Brasília on July 4. All eight Host Cities—Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador—will stage at least seven matches and at least one knockout fixture, spreading the commercial, tourism and sporting impact of the 32-team tournament across the country. São Paulo will stage a Semi-Final and the Bronze Final, while the Maracanã will host the other Semi-Final before the world champions are crowned in Rio.
The selection of the Maracanã gives the tournament additional historical significance: the stadium is set to become only the third venue to host both a men’s FIFA World Cup Final and a FIFA Women’s World Cup Final, joining Sweden’s former Råsunda Stadium and the Rose Bowl in the United States. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described Brazil 2027 as an opportunity for the passion and energy of Brazilian football culture to take women’s football onto another global stage, while FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Dame Sarai Bareman said the schedule was structured around sporting fairness, travel distances and player recovery while ensuring every Host City participates meaningfully in the tournament. With Fan Festivals, eight destination markets and 64 matches surrounding the competition, Brazil 2027 is being positioned not simply as a World Cup, but as a nationwide sports, tourism and commercial showcase for the continued global expansion of women’s football.
