
Cairo, Egypt, March 1, 2015 - Egypt claimed their sixth successive Women's U20 African Championship after beating Kenya 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-17) in the final match held at the Eastern Company Hall in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday.
The Egyptians also won this age group championship in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012.
Egypt finished the competition with a win-loss ratio of 2-0 (6 points), ahead of Algeria who were second with a 1-1 record (2 points). Both teams confirmed places at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship in Limassol & Kato Polemidia, Cyprus from July 3-12.
Kenya ended their campaign in third position, with 0-2 win-loss record in their first participation in the finals since 2009.
The Kenyan team were affected by the first set loss and Egypt continued to dominate in the second set through outside hitter Hend Meawad's efficient spikes.
The Egyptian ladies continued to heap on the pressure to lead 16-10 at the second TTO of the third set. Kenya reduced the point deficit to 19-17, before the Egyptians scored 6 successive points to win the set 25-17 and claim a straight-sets win.
