In similar fashion, and just a few days shy of South Africa’s biggest soccer match – the Soweto derby, Vladimir Vermezovic has quit his job as head coach of Orlando Pirates. The Soweto giants confirmed yesterday that “Vlad V” had quit – only 293 days after he took up the rains.
Caretaker coach Eric Tinkler, who has experience having taken over as interim coach following the exit of Roger de Sar, will step into the hot seat once again and his first assignment will be against bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Vlad V joined Pirates in February in what looked a strange appointment, given that despite winning two Telkom Knockout titles in three seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, he had left AmaKhosi in 2012 after failing to capture the league title.
Pirates supporters booed their head coach off the field and hurled missiles at him at the end of the game at FNB Stadium.
