The ‘Brazilians’ wrapped up the league crown on Wednesday, 4 May 2016 after a 3-0 win over neighbours, University of Pretoria to go eight points clear with two matches remaining.
Despite a place in next year’s CAF Champions League already secured for next season, Head Coach Pitso Mosimane believes the CAF Confederation Cup carries the same amount of pedigree and doing well in the competition will give his squad valuable experience against the some of the best teams in Africa.
“It is unfortunate that we were knocked out of the CAF Champions League as this is where you prove to Africa and the rest of the world that you are the best. We have done well this year and now we need to stamp our authority as one of the best clubs in Africa. Just like the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup will test our mental and tactical readiness to conquer Africa,” said a joyful Mosimane.
The former Bafana Bafana coach has become one of the country’s most respected tacticians over time. With two league titles and two cup competitions to his name after taking over at the club just three seasons ago, the 51-year-old mentor says continental success is the ultimate achievement for any club or coach ahead of the first leg clash against Medeama.
“I believe in the quality of my team. We were a bit unlucky against AS Vita but now we have another opportunity to make our mark in Africa. We have proven ourselves in South Africa but the ultimate goal is to do well against the best on the continent” said Mosimane.
The Brazilians will have to put the champagne on ice until the final match of the season and have quickly shifted focus to Saturday’s clash.
