South Africa resumed the day from their overnight score of 299/5 and all eyes were on Kallis who is playing in his last test match before calling it quits and he did not disappoint anyone, scoring his 45th test century.
He was ably supported by Dale Steyn as the overnight pair added 86 runs for the 6th wicket. Robin Peterson and Faf du Plessis rattled up a quick century stand to help the hosts stretch the lead to 163 runs.
India the stepped onto the crease to bat and they were rocked by Vernon Philander losing Murali Vijay for just 6. Shiktar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara put their heads down and started to chip away at the deficit.
It needed a special catch from de Plessis to end Dhawan’s fight. Pujara and Virat Kohli made sure that there was no more damage done and brought the deficit down to 98 runs.
The two sides will resume play with the hosts still in front and India need to show every ounce of their fighting skills if they are to complete what will be a credible series draw. 98 over’s are scheduled for today and it will be another early start.
