Assistant coach of the Sierra Leone Volleyball national team, Coach Sorie Kamara hopes that President Ernest Bai Koroma’s praises could open doors for more supports towards the success of the sport and respect for the national volleyball team.
President Koroma during the state opening of the third session of the fourth Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone last Friday December 5th sequentially praised Volleyball, Athletics and the Cycling Associations as the most successful sporting disciplines for the calendar year.
He said Sierra Leone made substantial impact in sports especially in Volleyball, athletics, and Cycling by winning laurels for Sierra Leone at the ECOWAS Games and other international tournaments.

He said Sierra Leone made substantial impact in sports especially in Volleyball, athletics, and Cycling by winning laurels for Sierra Leone at the ECOWAS Games and other international tournaments.
“Our most remarkable performance has been in Volleyball where Sierra Leone was named the best junior Volleyball team in Africa for 2014 at the U-17, U-19, U-21 and U-23 levels. On account of this, the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association is recognized as the model Volleyball association for Africa,” the President said.
According to Coach Kamara who also doubles as the country’s beach volleyball director, they were able to attain such height with very little support but hopes such acclaim by the President could attract more support.
He said: “ For us we are happy because these are the type accolade we are expecting and we have achieve what we have without having any kind of support the other sporting disciplines are having because in volleyball we have the ‘can do spirit’.”
Secretary General of the SLVA, Ahmed Khanou in his reaction applauded the association’s key sponsors; Africell and Mercury International for their support and also thanked sports journalist for their relentless work in promoting the sport.
