The victory comes just four days after Simba outclassed Egyptians giants Ahly by the same scoreline at the same venue to revive their hopes of a place at the next round of the Total CAF Champions League.
Rwanda-import Meddie Kagere was the only reason for Simba to cheer loudestr in the unarguably the biggest and most watched game in Tanzania, heading home the only goal from a John Bocco cross in the 71st minute.
Buoyed with their CAF Champions League form, Simba dominated the game, but failed to create clear chances in the first half. Only captain Bocco and midfielder Cletous Chama attempted to score in the opening 20 minutes but their shots went wide. Yanga forward, Amissi Tambwe whose header went wide.
Feisal Salum tried to break the deadlock in the 50th minute but his long range shot went wide, before John Bocco missed two sitters that could have given Simba the lead.
Kagere, scorer of 23 goals for Simba in all competition since his move from Kenya champions’ Gor Mahia last June, decided the game with his header from Bocco’s cross from the right, leaving Yanga goalie, Ramadhan Kabwili with nothing to do.
Yanga responded and fought for the equalizer with striker Herritier Makambo missing a clear chance three minutes before the end of the regular time, after his header was denied by Simba goalie, Aishi Manula.
The result extends Yanga’s record of no wins in the derby to six matches, with their last victory dating back February 2016.

Patrick Aussems (Head Coach, Simba)
It is a good victory for us. We wanted to win this match to boost our chances of retaining the title. We created a number of chances but we could not make good use of them, and for me one goal was enough because we won the game. We still have a lot of games to play, to see if we can garner more points than Yanga, but this is the good start.
Mwinyi Zahera (Head Coach, Yanga)
I always say that Simba has the best players in our league, and today it was vivid. Their players are faster and made good use of chances, compared to mine. We played well but we were not better.
