
The Sierra Leone national youth U-23, John Keister and FC Johansen assistant coach Daniel Conteh have both been convicted by Magistrate Bangura of the Pademba Road Court No. 5 on two counts of trespassing.
Keister who also doubles as head coach of FC Johansen was on Wednesday the 4th of February 2014 convicted on the matter between the Inspector General of Police and John Keister, and Daniel Abdel Conteh.
Both were charged in court on three counts of assault, trespassing and public insult on a journalist and editor of Salone Times Newspaper Thomas Dixon on the 18th of October 2014.
But they were however convicted on count two of trespassing.
“After listening to the plea of motion from the Defense, I have decided to fine the two accused persons; Le250, 000 each or six months in Prison and they should compensate the complainant with Le 1,500000 each,” the Magistrate stated.
Speaking to this medium, Thomas Dixon thanked his two friends Alhaji Komba and Pa Alie Sesay who are also journalists for standing by him and also thanked Umaru Fofonah and Donald Theo Harding for their concerns when the incident occurred.
“This decision is not only for me but it is a landmark decision for journalists and journalism in the Sierra Leone,” he added.
Inspector Hawa Williams associated by Lawyer Roland Nylenda prosecuted the matter while Alhaji Koroma represented the Defense Counsel.
