The Deputy Minister of Sports, Ishmael Al Sankoh Conteh has made known to athletes and sporting disciplines that Sierra Leone will compete in the 11th edition of the All African Games scheduled for September 4–19, 2015 in Brazzaville, Congo.
The deputy minister made this pledge in an exclusive interview with Songhai Sports following concerns raised by the association’s official’s and the Chef de Mission of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Unisa Deen Kargbo that the country will not participate in the Games due to a huge debt owed by the country to the Games.
Allaying the fear of officials and athletes, Al Sankoh said participating in the All Africa Games is a top priority of the Ministry and they are working very hard with the other authorities concerned to see that the country’s flag fly in Brazzaville.
Sierra Leone has been absent from the Games after missing out on the last two occasions, with the recent one being the 2011 Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
The debt problems stopped the country from the previous Games because the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifiers was our priority at the time than the 2011 Games.
