NEW YORK (Tuesday, May 19, 2015) – Seattle Sounders FC forward Chad Barrett was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 11 of the 2015 MLS season.
Barrett opened his 2015 scoring account with a pair of goals that propelled Sounders FC to a 2-0 Cascadia Cup victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday. The brace was Barrett’s first since May 8, 2010, when he scored twice in Toronto FC’s 4-1 win over the Chicago Fire.
With starting striker Obafemi Martins sidelined by injury, Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid tabbed Barrett to start alongside U.S. international Clint Dempsey. The 30-year-old, making his second start of the season, wasted no time making his presence felt on the pitch. In the fifth minute, Barrett sped past a pair of Vancouver defenders, chased down a perfectly weighted through ball from Dempsey, and flicked a right-footed shot past David Ousted to give Seattle a 1-0 lead.

Later, in the 38th minute, Barrett completed his brace and boosted Sounders FC into the top spot of the Cascadia Cup standings. He again made an impeccably timed run and slipped behind Vancouver’s backline, this time smashing a left-footed volley into the far corner off a perfect feed from Marco Pappa.
