01 March 2016 – The South African Football Association’s (SAFA) school player registration drive kicked off today at Vulumzi school in Motherwell, Eastern Cape.
Dr. Danny Jordaan was in attendance for the milestone event, doing double-duty, both as SAFA President and Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Mayor while answering questions and taking pictures with educators.
“This initiative starts here today,” enthused Dr. Jordaan. “Not only in the Eastern Cape, not only in Nelson Mandela Bay, not only in Motherwell - but at your school, Vulumzi, whose very name means opening doors and new opportunities. You will always be first.”

A total of 89 boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 19 were registered in eight teams by Vulumzi coaches and the Inqaku rollout team. In addition to fighting age and other forms of identity cheating, the SAFA Digital initiative is intended to increase visibility and participation in schools football.
“Now more than ever, it is important that children of all backgrounds meet on the sports field,” explained the SAFA President. “It helps us understand and respect each other. Not only the students but the teachers and administrators as well.”
The Inqaku registration system will be rolled out across the country in the coming weeks.
