Endurocad, run by Olympian and former long-distance runner Elana Meyer and Janet Welham, will assess and evaluate the 20 pre-selected candidates using psychometrics and physiological tests. The athletes will then undergo a programme that includes motivational talks, nutritional advice and guidance on preventing injuries.
Expert coaching and advice will be given by head coach of Endurocad, Ernie Gruhn as well as coaches Jacques Jansen van Rensburg and Kathleen Shuttleworth, who all have extensive knowledge in endurance training.
Songo Fipaza of the Songo non-profit organisation will give an inspirational talk on how his dream of uplifting the community he grew up in; Kayamandi Stellenbosch has come to fruition. Avocado Vision (sponsored by Sanlam) will provide an interactive financial workshop.
Endurocad hopes to create the best platform to elevate all the talented runners in South Africa and to give them the much-needed skills to be counted in the international field of endurance running.
Janet Welham said: “We have put together a very strong team to implement the many different skills-training components, as we want to ensure that the runners are given the best opportunities to succeed in their chosen field and to develop them for life after sport.”
Elana Meyer said: “The objective of the skills training and assessment camp is to identify talented athletes for the Endurocad Satellite programme, where we will help the athletes even further in their career. After the four-day camp, the athletes should have gained the knowledge and experience to prepare them for their running profession.”
