I want to congratulate TP Mazembe on the victory. It was a tough match. We were in control of possession in the early stages, but we made two serious mistakes, which cost us.
We were able to reduce the deficit during the first half, which was positive, and we tried to be more effective in the second half.
Also the injury of Rami Bedoui in the first half affected our stability. We had to push Alaya Brigui to the right back and it affected our attacking options. Diego Acosta came on and gave us stability in attack.
We had a good opportunity in the second half to draw level but the Mazembe goalie pulled a superb save to deny us the equalizer. It was almost a goal and it was unfortunate the ball did not go through.
The defence of Mazembe tried to foil our attacks and this led to more yellow cards for them.
The players did their best but it was the two individual errors that was our undoing.
We put a lot of efforts into this game and it is sad we lost. We apologize to our fans and all Tunisians for disappointing them.
Hubert Velud (Head Coach, TP Mazembe)
I’m very happy we have won another continental title. Every title is difficult to win. We were on a good level. In the second half, we were better and we used the spaces in the middle. Football is paradoxical, and in the half that we played better, we failed to score.
We were realistic and solid in the first half and managed to score two goals.
It is a good result taken into consideration that we had little time to prepare for the game. It is an excellent result and a good start for me and the team. It is a good starting point but we need to work harder.
