Quarterfinal line-up complete at Men's African Club Championship

Uganda's Nemostars surprised Fanar of Algeria to win their encounter in five sets

Cairo, Egypt, March 28, 2016 - Egypt's Al Geish, Tunisia's Esperance, Cameroon's FAP and RD Congo's Espoir completed the quarterfinal line-up at the end of the 2016 Men's African Club Championship Preliminary Round at Cairo Stadium Complex in Egypt on Monday.

Ahly, Smouha and Zamalek from Egypt along with Swehly from Libya had already confirmed their places in the quarterfinals on Day 4.
 
Now Zamalek will play Smouha in a purely Egyptian encounter in the quarterfinals, while Ahly take on Esperance in a repeat of their final encounters in 2014 and 2015. Swehly will line up against FAP while Geish battle it out against Espoir in the other face-offs on Tuesday.
 
In Preliminary Round Pool A, Swehly maintained their perfect record as they claimed a fifth victory in a row against DGSP (CGO) 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-9) to improve their win-loss ratio to 5-0 with 14 points. The losers dropped to a 1-4 win-loss ratio and fourth place.
 
Zamalek (EGY) secured second position in Pool A after their victory against Police (SEN) 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-15).
 
Gendarmerie (MAD) defeated Daim Hamad (SUD) 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-10) to finish third in Pool A with a 3-3 record, leaving the Sudanese team in fourth position.
 
Ahly (EGY) claimed a fifth win against Atletico (CPV) 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-11) in Pool B. They lead their pool after five matches, and are yet to drop a set.
 
Also in Pool B, Espoir (COD) confirmed a quarterfinal ticket after they beat TGOM (GAB) 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) to improve to a 4-1 win-loss record. Wolaitta (ETH) recorded their first win against Douanes (BUR) 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13) but remain at the bottom of the pool. TGOM finish third, Atletico fourth and Douanes fifth.
 
In Pool C, Geish (EGY) fought aggressively for 110 minutes to overcome Setif (ALG) 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22) and lead the pool with a 5-0 record. Esperance (TUN) claimed the second quarterfinal ticket from the pool after they were victorious against CSVB (CMR) 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) to improve to a 4-1 win-loss record.
 
Smouha (EGY) maintained their victorious rhythm as they upset Nahda (SUD) 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-15) in Pool D, leaving their opponents winless. Smouha improved to 5-0 and Nahda ended on a 0-5 record.
 
Against expectations, FAP (CMR) cruised past Ahly Beni Ghazi (LBA) 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) in a decisive encounter determining the second qualifier with Smouha in Pool D. Nemostars (UGA) surprised Fanar (ALG) 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-6) in one of the day's most thrilling matches.
