Following Sunday’s impressive One Day International win over Sri Lanka, the Proteas will be hoping to go two up when the two top nations go back to battle on Wednesday.
AB De Villiers and Hashim Amla will be the key figures tomorrow as they played out a blinder and ammased a partnership that took the Proteas to 304 runs at the 30 000 seater R Premadasa stadium. They did justice with the bat hitting a combined 151 runs which was a fine effort from two of South Africa’s finest players.
Important as ever in the partnership between the two was the way they rotated the strike. Amla scored 51 runs of his total from singles, while De Villiers hit 40 singles. In the end, they garnered 109 and 75 runs respectively.

“At first we hung there. Quinton (De Kock) got away a little but I just hung in and tried to support him in that phase. We took a little bit of time to settle,” the Proteas new captain Amla said after the match.
While Amla and De Villiers stole the headlines, De Kock and Miller both caught the eye with confident cameo roles and they will enjoy the second test match at the Palekelle Stadium that has extra pace.
“The South Africans played better cricket than us today and we were a bit rusty. We dropped some crucial catches and then our middle order betting shot selection was not good, so that cost us the game,” said Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakarra.
The Proteas will be hoping for an improved performance in the second and third matches left in the series.it will be sweet revenge after South Africa was defeated 4-1 last year and will take the important lessons they learnt on Sunday.
