
The victory sees them marching through to the next round of South Africa’s most lucrative knockout competition. The Buccaneers were hard pressed for a victory following their slow start to the domestic season and a cup final loss (MTN 8) to bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
Their head coach, Vladimir Vermezovic believes that he learned a lot about South African culture in his first stint in the country to know how to handle things when results appear far fetched.
During his spell at Chiefs, he won the Telkom Knockout Cup back to back in 2009 and 2010. It was his most successful spell in knockout competitions. The Buccaneers brought him back to the country in the hope of repeating that.
“The chairman didn’t give me any assurances about my job because I didn’t ask for assurances. I am more competitive now than I was before. Like always, not just in football but in life too I am competitive,” he recently told a local publication.
