NEW YORK (Monday, August 4, 2014) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 21 of the 2014 MLS season.
Keane tallied two goals and one assist in the Galaxy’s 3-1 win against the Portland Timbers on August 2nd.
After conceding a goal early, LA found the equalizer in the last minute of first half stoppage time. Keane controlled the ball at the top of the box and found Galaxy defender Robbie Rogers making a run down the left flank. Rogers crossed to an unmarked Gyasi Zardes who headed it past Portland goalkeeper Donovan Rickets.
Keane put the Galaxy in front with a beautiful headed effort in the 73rd minute. Landon Donovan made a clever overlapping run and got the ball in space on the left side of the box. Keane snuck behind the Portland defense and put his head on a perfect cross from Donovan.

Keane sealed the win with a penalty kick goal in the 85th minute. Portland midfielder Diego Chara was whistled for a foul on the edge of the box when he tripped up Galaxy midfielder Juninho, who was going after a loose ball. Keane stepped up to the spot and froze Rickets with a blast to the right side of goal.
The Galaxy are back in action with another nationally televised match at home as they take on the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday, August 8th at 10:30 p.m. ET. That game can be seen on NBC Sports Network and TSN2.
