NEW YORK (Monday, September 8, 2014) – LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 26 of the 2014 MLS regular season. This is the third Player of the Week honor for Donovan this season and second in as many weeks.
Donovan scored two goals and added two assists in the Galaxy’s 6-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Friday night.
Donovan’s first goal of the night came from the penalty spot in the 5th minute after a red card was issued to Rapids goalkeeper Joe Nasco. Donovan stepped and hit the ball dead center as Clint Irwin dove the other way.
Donovan notched his first assist on the evening in the second minute of added time in the first half. Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic played a passto Donovan whose one-touch a pass found Gyasi Zardes making a run to the six-yard box. Zardes slotted the ball in to the net passed the on rushing Irwin.

In the 47th minute, Donovan added to his goal tally, again, from the penalty spot. The savvy veteran took a short run up and slotted the ball into the lower right corner of the goal to put the Galaxy up 4-0.
Donovan’s second assist came in the 86th minute on the Galaxy’s sixth goal of the night. Galaxy midfielder Marcelo Sarvas found Donovan in open space right outside the box, Donovan played a pass to the on-rushing Husidic who curled a first time shot passed the opposing ‘keeper and into the back of the net.
LA Galaxy hit the road to take on the Montreal Impact on Wednesday, September 10 7:30 p.m. ET (TSN, RDS).
