The Rwanda champions suffered a 2-1 loss in the first leg at home in Kigali last weekend, and will be seeking to overturn the result to remain in the competition.
“We are capable of doing that. The game is still open. I have a lot of work to do since APR is a team for the future because of many young talented players,” said the Tunisian.
The Rwandan Military side will need to score at least two unanswered goals to qualify at the expense of their regional rivals.
“We tried to create chances to win the game (first leg), but we failed to find the back of the net. We had few days to prepare for the return and we shall be at our best.
“We didn’t play to our level in first half of the first leg. Two mistakes killed our game but my young team played very well especially in the second half. I am not making a conclusion because everything is possible in the second leg. We have to win and qualify. We will do our best to secure a win in Tanzania” he noted
Defender Juma Abdul netted the opener on 20 minutes with a superb free-kick before Thaban Kamusoko doubled the lead on 73 minutes. Patrick Sibomana netted the consolation goal for APR in the dying minutes.
Meanwhile, Yanga coach Van Der Pluijm has admitted that the job is far from over despite going into the second leg with a 2-1 advantage.
“The second leg we will be much better because we will be playing at home. APR is a big team, but we will look out for a win. We still have to finish the job.
“It is an important result when you win away. I know we can do much better than we did in first leg. I am happy with two away goals but we still have much to do in second leg. We have to be serious and I know it will be tougher than the first leg.
The winner will face either Egyptian giants Al Ahly or Recreativo do Libolo of Angola for a place at the pool stage.
