Over two days, members of the board, under the leadership of IWBF President, Ulf Mehrens (GER), and IWBF Secretary General, Maureen Orchard (CAN), discussed various items.
A broad range of topics were under review of the world governing body for Wheelchair Basketball – besides more common matters, the board focused on the upcoming challenges and opportunities which lay ahead of wheelchair basketball with the Paralympic Games in Rio.
Furthermore, the organisation will focus on securing resources in order to ensure professional work within IWBF and to enlarge its commitments towards the worldwide development of wheelchair basketball.
To that end, several decisions and resolutions were taken which shall now be realized step-by-step.
Another major topic was the strategical review of how IWBF and wheelchair basketball can offer sustainable tools to the inclusive character of basketball.
The Executive Council is convinced that wheelchair basketball and thereby IWBF, will play its role in showing how valuable and important the world of sport can be for society.
By cheering up with a strong partner like FIBA, we will be able to strengthen the inclusive nature of basketball which excites abled and disabled basketball fans around the globe.
"We are Basketball" – let’s make it happen.
