The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) secured their first points in Group D of the 2015 Africa Nations Cup Qualifiers with a crucial 2 - 0 away win over Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in Lubumbashi.
Firmin Mubele scored DR Congo's opener before Jeremy Bokila doubled his side's advantage a few minutes before the end of the game which proved enough to give them a much-needed win and leave Leone Stars rooted to the bottom of the table following two consecutive losses.
DR Congo were without Youssouf Mulumbu who picked up injury against Cameroon in their opening game loss, but coach Florent Ibenge gave the armband to TP Mazembe’s charismatic skipper Robert Kidiaba.
Sierra Leone was missing their skipper, Umaru Bangura and midfilders Alfreda Zagalo Sanko because of injury.
The Leopards came close in the 12th minute with their first goal opportunity but Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba missed completely from close range.
