Depot Tennis Club wins maiden Holy Trinity monthly inter-club tennis challenge

​Depot Tennis Club of Accra emerged winners of the inaugural Holy Trinity Monthly Inter-Club Tennis Challenge at Sogakope when they beat the Kaneshie Complex Tennis Club (Kalatec).

The two clubs competed in men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles and mixed doubles.

Richard Borluvie of Depot Tennis Club beat Charles Fletcher of Kalatec 7:6 (4) in a keenly contested men’s singles’ final match, whilst in the men’s doubles, Etornam Gblende and Fred Johnson Pasino of Depot Tennis Club beat Happy Dzah and Dr. Kafui Tetteh of Kalatec 7:5.

​The women’s singles final saw Oforiwaa Aboagye of Depot Tennis Club beat Adubea Sarkodie of Kalatec 7:4.

At the Closing Ceremony, the Tournament Director, Mr. Henry Boni-Quarshie outlined the objectives for institutionalizing the monthly Holy Trinity Monthly Inter-Club Tennis Challenge, Sogakope under the auspices of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) and emphasized that all the monthly winners will qualify for the Holy Trinity Social Tennis Grand Slam to be held at the end of the year, December 2020.

He confirmed that the facilities, at the Heath Farm, are currently being upgraded to meet international specifications to enable them to qualify to host future Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) as well as International Tennis Federation (ITF) events, especially as the Health Farm is located just one hour drive from Accra-Tema motorway.

Special Awards were presented to players who excelled in specific lawn tennis benchmark skills, including Moses Oduro of Depot Club for ‘the play of the day’, Stephen Angmor also of Depot Club for ‘the best backhand shot’ and Adubea Sarkodie of Kalatec Club for ‘the most determined player’.

Dr. Cyril Bansah, Chairman of the Holy Trinity Tennis Club, in his closing remarks expressed his gratitude to the two clubs - Depot and Kaneshie Sports Complex – for honouring the invitation and urged other clubs in the country to sign up and participate in the monthly Holy Trinity Monthly Inter-Clubs Tennis Challenge, Sogakope, organized under the auspices of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).

He re-emphasized the appropriateness of the location of the Holy Trinity SPA & Health Farm for the development of the tennis game in Ghana, considering the beautiful, serene sprawling riverbank Wellness Facility with 80 rooms, including presidential suites, an in-house clinic with medical officer, nurses, laboratory technicians, trained physiotherapist and massage therapists to support national and international sporting activities.

Additionally, the SPA’s 100-seater ultra-modern cinema, an aesthetically nourishing Club and lounge 40-feet into the Volta River provide a regenerative opportunities for the busy executive tennis players and their families for weekday business schedules. He also extended special appreciation to the Executive Chairman of the Holy Trinity SPA and Health Farm, Dr. Felix Anyah, a keen tennis enthusiast, for his immense support for institutionalizing the monthly inter-club tennis challenge as well as the annual Social Tennis Grand Slam.

Dr. Cyril Bansah announced that the next competition will be between the Ho Tennis Club against the Regional Maritime Tennis Club of Accra in October.
