All eyes were on record 13-time championship winners, Nyasa Big Bullets, having signed on quality players.
Burly striker, Muhamad Sulumba, signed from rivals, Be Forward Wanderers, missed a second-half penalty for Bullets.
However, Bullets coach Franco Ndawa refused to press the panic button yet, saying the draw was not a bad result afterall.
“That is football for you. We had three scoring chances, which we did not utilize. Overall I am happy with the performance of my charges," said Ndawa.
Ironically, Bullets' rivals Wanderers travelled to the capital city Lilongwe on Sunday and achieved an unlikely 2-1 win over Silver Strikers. Silver's former striker, Peter Wadabwa grabbed a 74th minute winner for Wanderers. Duncan Nyoni had put Silver ahead on the quarter-hour mark only for Wanderers captain Francis Mlimbika to level matters 14 minutes later.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Army side, Red Lions who defeated Epac 1-0 through Boniface Kaulesi's goal, whereas former Malawi international Victor Nyirenda scored on his debut for police side, Blue Eagles as they defeated rookies, Dwangwa United 1-0 in the Central Region venue of Chiowe.
The Malawi league was established in 1986 and it comprises 16 teams with bottom three relegated and three regional champions promoted every season.
