South Africa’s women’s rugby team is on a mission in France were they will take part in the IRB Womens Rugby World Cup. The Boks women meet old nemesis Australia in their opening game tomorrow before they meet the hosts on August 5 and wrap things up with a clash against Wales on August 9.
Their pool matches are scheduled to take place at the French Rugby Federation headquarters in Marcoussis, outside of Paris.
The team arrived in France on Monday and had a short recovery session before attending a welcome function at the Les Ulis community hall. They resumed full training on Tuesday with early morning training followed by a video session and their first field training session in France.

“This is the third rugby world cup I am participating in and it is fantastic to see how quickly the players have adapted to their new surroundings and switched into match mode. Every player realizes the importance of starting the tournament with a quality performance and the fact that we are facing Australia in our first match has forced the players to develop the required mental toughness from the onset, which is encouraging for us as a team,” said flank Lamla Momoti.
The last time the women Boks faced Australia was in the 2010 Rugby World Cup in London and the result was a disappointing 62-0 defeat.
