Algiers, Algeria, January 25, 2016 - Newly appointed Algeria head coach Mohamed Amine Belacel will be supported by fitness coach Mouzaia Madjid and statistician Lyazine Assef as his team prepare for the African Women's Olympic Qualification Tournament in Yaoundé, Cameroon from February 12 to 19.
Speaking ahead of the Olympic qualifier, Belacel said: "The Algerian team is now younger, after several key players have left the squad. The players have been together for quite a long time now, so I will come in and strengthen what has already been put in place. We will try and improve specific points ahead of our second goal, the African Championship in 2017.
Belacel's coaching career began with the women's team of ASUC Rija, winning the Algerian national title in 1995 and reaching two cup finals lost to ASV Béjaia and MC Alger. In 2000, he coached OC Alger before coaching the Algerian women's team from 2003 to 2005. He then took his career to Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2010, before returning to Algeria and coaching PO Chlef. Belacel replaces Fayçal Gharzouli, who resigned earlier this month.
