Kipchoge underlines legend status with world record run in Berlin

The sight was a familiar one, Eliud Kipchoge running through the Brandenburg Gates and charging towards the finish line at the BMW Berlin Marathon. But the main difference on Sunday (25) was the fact that he reached that landmark quicker than he had done in his four previous appearances in the German capital.
The clock had just ticked over to two hours as he ran under the arches. Past experience told him that there was just a minute of running left. He knew that his world record of 2:01:39 would soon be history; the only question was by how much.

Eliud Kipchoge crowned the 48th edition of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON in breaking the world record with his time of 2:01:09. The 37-year-old improved his own world best time by exactly half a minute. He was even on course for a while to achieve the dream of running under two hours but couldn’t maintain this splendid pace. The Kenyan added further lustre to Berlin’s already rich honour board since this was the 12th world record in the marathon’s history, a total unmatched by any other marathon race in the world.

Tiafoe Sails to US Open Semifinals with a dominant Victory over Russia’s Rublev

It took 3 sets 7 – 6, 7 – 6. And 6 – 4 for the USA’s 22nd Ranked Frances Tiafoe to dispatch Russia’s 9th Ranked Andrey Rublev to set a Semifinal date with either 11th Ranked Jannik Sinner of Italy or 3rd Ranked Carlos Alcaraz of Spain who are set to lock horns later tonight at the Arthur Ashe stadium.

Tiafoe officially ends the US Men’s Grand Slam drought at the final four since John Isner made the Semifinals in Wimbledon in 2018.

After two years of no action due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the exciting Millennium Marathon is back in a bang for the 2022 edition which came off at the Independence Square on Saturday, September 3, 2022.
Ishmael Arthur was the first male to cross the finish line in 1:02 :05 seconds in the 21 Kilometres Race for elite athletes.
He was followed by Atia Koogo who placed second in1:02:54 and Basit Afful taking the third position in 1:03:03.
Titi Rosina took the first position of the female category in1:16:50. Sarah Koomson placed second, while Sharifa Moro was third.

BERLIN. Tobi Amusan relished conditions for sprint hurdling in the Olympic Stadium. The Nigerian world record holder won the 100m hurdles in 12.45, the second fastest time ever at the ISTAF meeting. Grant Holloway led a USA trio across the line to win the men’s event. Karsten Warholm ran 47.24 to win the 400m hurdles by a clear margin and the American Noah Lyles had the better of the African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala in the 100m. The Olympic and World champion Malaika Mihambo gave the home fans plenty to cheer with her long jump victory, while the American Valarie Allman achieved another big win in the women’s discus.
