Israel Adesanya has been described as the next big superstar of UFC middleweight division by President, Dana White.
The Nigerian defeated Paulo Costa of Brazil in 3:59seconds in Abu Dhabi, last Saturday, to defend his middleweight title.

Nigerian-born New Zealand based mixed martial art fighter, Israel Adesanya humiliated Paulo Costa of Brazil in a UFC 253 Middleweight title fight on Saturday night.
The 31-year-old Nigerian dominated Costa, 29, in the fight which lasted for three minutes, 59 seconds. He recorded a total of 55 punches in the less than two rounds fight culminating in a TKO decision to make him winner in a bout deemed one of the biggest in recent UFC middleweight history. 
Elaine Thompson-Herah who won the Singles double at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games blazed the 100m tracks in 10.87 seconds, in the Wanda Doha Diamond League on Friday.
She dusted the runners crew which had Ivory Coast’s Marie Josee Ta Lou and USA’s Kayla White. 
Reigning African champions Algeria have replaced Cote d’Ivoire as the opponents of the Super Eagles in the first of two international friendly matches arranged by the Nigeria Football Federation to be played in Austria next month. The matches fall within the FIFA window for international matches and have been approved by world football –governing body, FIFA and CAF.
The Federation Ivorienne de Football, on 22nd September sent to the NFF a letter regretting their inability to send a team to Austria for the game as earlier agreed, citing “internal problems.” However, what at first seemed a disappointment turned into delight as stronger Algeria immediately accepted to tango with three-time African champions Nigeria on 9th October at the Jacques Lemans Arena. This followed a phone call from President of the NFF, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick to his Algerian opposite number, Mr. Kheireddine Zetchi. 
The International Cricket Council has expressed sadness at the passing of former Australia international Dean Jones at the age of 59.
In a statement, ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: “We are extremely sad to hear of Dean’s sudden death and I would like to extend our deep condolences to his family and friends on behalf of the ICC. 
The Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm, Sogakope, will host two tennis clubs of Tesano Police Depot (Depot Tennis Club) and Kaneshie Sports Complex (Kalatec Tennis Club), both in Accra for a special weekend social tournament.
The two clubs will be guests to the Farm’s newly upgraded ultra-modern tennis facilities, where they will be treated to a variety of games including tennis. The visit of the two clubs forms part of planned activities to celebrate a partnership being developed between the Farm and the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) towards the accreditation of the Holy Trinity SPA Tennis Courts as a regional tennis tourism destination and an integral part of the West African Tennis Circuit for international tournaments to be organized under the GTF.

Ghana international, Kevin Prince Boateng has agreed to join Serie B side, AC Monza.
Boateng after returning to AFC Fiorentina from Besiktas on loan has struggled to break into the team. He has been linked to several European clubs in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Los Angeles Football Club forward Bradley Wright-Phillips was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for the 13th week of the 2020 MLS season. This was Wright-Phillips’ 12th MLS Player of the Week honor, third-most in league history, and the first since Week 29 of the 2018 season.
Wright-Phillips powered LAFC to a dominant 6-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday at Banc of California Stadium behind two goals, the 22nd regular season multi-goal performance of his MLS career. Wright-Phillips now has seven goals this season, tied for fourth-most in the standings for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi. Two international friendly matches were scheduled for the Black Stars of Ghana in next months FIFA international window.
West African nation, Mali are to be opponents for October 9 and Central African country, Equatorial Guinea, were to play three days after, October 12. Both games were slated for Antalya in Turkey. 
The Managing Director of CalBank, Philip Owiredu, has re-affirmed the commitment of the company to continue with their long standing relationship in the development and promotion of Beach Soccer in Ghana.
Mr. Owiredu and senior CalBank officials, on Tuesday, September 22, met with the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, as well as the Chairman of Beach Soccer Committee, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, for the first time since the new administration took office. "I hope this long standing relationship with beach soccer, which is now under the umbrella of the Ghana FA would see even more strides being made. I wish to once again congratulate Mr. Kurt Okraku on his election. I must say that so far I have been impressed with the positive tone he carries. I hope this would also materialize into positive action". 
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, September 24, 2020/ -- The Springboks will begin their defence of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship with an away match against Argentina – in Brisbane – before a ‘home’ game against the Wallabies in Sydney, it was announced overnight as SANZAAR unveiled the competition fixtures.
South Africa’s participation in the event still has to be confirmed but SANZAAR has revealed the intended playing schedule for the 12-match, six-week tournament, which will take place in Australia (in Brisbane, Newcastle and Sydney) between November 7 and December 12. The Boks are scheduled to play back-to-back matches against New Zealand – with an away game in Sydney before ‘hosting’ the same opponents in Newcastle – before the tournament returns to Sydney for the final two rounds. 
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, September 24, 2020/ -- In June Rugby Africa (http://www.RugbyAfrique.com) announced the immediate release of EUR 170,000.00 from a solidarity fund for its member unions. The Rugby Africa Executive Committee had initiated the relief campaign given the current health crisis and the immediate impact it had on the rugby community at large. 31 rugby federations received the Rugby Africa solidarity fund and used it towards distribution of emergency food packages, medical support as well as personal protective equipment such as masks, hand sanitiser gels, etc. for clubs and as players in their respective countries.
All member federations were eligible for this financial aid to support their rugby communities. The federations could use the funds depending on their needs, while the financial aid granted considered the size of the federation and its level of development. The countries of the following rugby unions received grants from the Rugby Africa solidarity fund: Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eswatini (Swaziland), Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho Rugby Union, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius Rugby, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. 
Chief Executive of Rugby Football Union of England, Bill Sweeney, has begged the government for help for rugby to still be played in the country and teams maintained.
The RFU cut its staff strength by 140, slashed funding to the country’s National Seven’s Programme. They had projected financial revival following hitherto plans by the government to allow fans into stadiums BY October but the recent increase in the number of coronavirus cases has seen the government rescind that decision thereby extending fans lockaway from game venues without a definite end in sight. According to Sweeney, the decision to keep fans away from game venues will cost the RFU a whopping “£122m reduction in revenue resulting in a loss of £46m” and another £138m reduction in revenue with a loss of £60m thereby preventing investment in areas such as the women’s elite game and community rugby. 
West Ham confirmed David Moyes and two other players – Issa Diop and Josh Cullen – tested positive to coronavirus on Tuesday evening.
“West Ham United can confirm that David Moyes, Issa Diop and Josh Cullen have returned positive tests for COVID-19.” The club’s statement read. The announcement came as the trio were set for a game with the team against Hull City in the English Football League Cup – one hour and ten minutes before the 7:30 kick-off. The match did go on as planned but Moyes, Diop and Cullen were excused from the stadium and assistant manager, Alan Irvine, took charge.

The return of some sporting events amid the coronavirus pandemic should lead to "confidence in our preparations" for Tokyo 2020, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has said.
In an open letter to the Olympic Movement, following on from one written in April, Bach gave an update on plans going forward and stated he was thankful that sport was back in some form, paying tribute to those who made it possible. "The very positive reception of these events clearly demonstrates that not only athletes and sports organisations but also the public at large have been longing for the return of sport as an integral part of our lives," Bach said. "We also see that sport can be organised safely, even under the ongoing restrictions. "This should give all of us confidence in our preparations for future events, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games."
The Ghana Football Association, GFA, does not seem to be certain in its plans to resume football activities in the month of October.
President of the country, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, announced aban lifting on all contact sports, earlier in the week. Comments from some members of the GFA suggest that the football house may not have all its members in agreement for the game to restart as earlier planned for October 30 
Atletico Madrid looked set to sign striker, Luis Suarez, after his release from Barcelona.
Suarez’s move to Atleti combined with the exit of striker Alvaro Morata, who is going to join Juventus on a season-long loan arrangement with an option to buy. Diego Simeone and Atleti’s CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin are said to have been in constant contact with the Uruguayan and were closing in on doing what would be one of the most remarkable deals of the summer. 
Arturo Vidal has signed a two-year contract with Inter, including an option for a third, after arriving from Barcelona for free.
It was initially reported that Barca wanted €1m to release the midfielder, but instead, the deal was done for only performance-related bonuses. He flew in on Sunday night at Linate Airport, had his medical on Monday morning and signed the contract at the Inter HQ that afternoon. |
