Nigerian-born New Zealand based mixed martial art fighter, Israel Adesanya humiliated Paulo Costa of Brazil in a UFC 253 Middleweight title fight on Saturday night.
The 31-year-old Nigerian dominated Costa, 29, in the fight which lasted for three minutes, 59 seconds. He recorded a total of 55 punches in the less than two rounds fight culminating in a TKO decision to make him winner in a bout deemed one of the biggest in recent UFC middleweight history.

Reigning African champions Algeria have replaced Cote d’Ivoire as the opponents of the Super Eagles in the first of two international friendly matches arranged by the Nigeria Football Federation to be played in Austria next month. CAPE TOWN, South Africa, September 24, 2020/ -- In June Rugby Africa (http://www.RugbyAfrique.com) announced the immediate release of EUR 170,000.00 from a solidarity fund for its member unions. The Rugby Africa Executive Committee had initiated the relief campaign given the current health crisis and the immediate impact it had on the rugby community at large. 31 rugby federations received the Rugby Africa solidarity fund and used it towards distribution of emergency food packages, medical support as well as personal protective equipment such as masks, hand sanitiser gels, etc. for clubs and as players in their respective countries.
All member federations were eligible for this financial aid to support their rugby communities. The federations could use the funds depending on their needs, while the financial aid granted considered the size of the federation and its level of development. The countries of the following rugby unions received grants from the Rugby Africa solidarity fund: Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eswatini (Swaziland), Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho Rugby Union, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius Rugby, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Chief Executive of Rugby Football Union of England, Bill Sweeney, has begged the government for help for rugby to still be played in the country and teams maintained.
The RFU cut its staff strength by 140, slashed funding to the country’s National Seven’s Programme. They had projected financial revival following hitherto plans by the government to allow fans into stadiums BY October but the recent increase in the number of coronavirus cases has seen the government rescind that decision thereby extending fans lockaway from game venues without a definite end in sight. According to Sweeney, the decision to keep fans away from game venues will cost the RFU a whopping “£122m reduction in revenue resulting in a loss of £46m” and another £138m reduction in revenue with a loss of £60m thereby preventing investment in areas such as the women’s elite game and community rugby.
West Ham confirmed David Moyes and two other players – Issa Diop and Josh Cullen – tested positive to coronavirus on Tuesday evening.
“West Ham United can confirm that David Moyes, Issa Diop and Josh Cullen have returned positive tests for COVID-19.” The club’s statement read. The announcement came as the trio were set for a game with the team against Hull City in the English Football League Cup – one hour and ten minutes before the 7:30 kick-off. The match did go on as planned but Moyes, Diop and Cullen were excused from the stadium and assistant manager, Alan Irvine, took charge.

The return of some sporting events amid the coronavirus pandemic should lead to "confidence in our preparations" for Tokyo 2020, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has said.
In an open letter to the Olympic Movement, following on from one written in April, Bach gave an update on plans going forward and stated he was thankful that sport was back in some form, paying tribute to those who made it possible. "The very positive reception of these events clearly demonstrates that not only athletes and sports organisations but also the public at large have been longing for the return of sport as an integral part of our lives," Bach said. "We also see that sport can be organised safely, even under the ongoing restrictions. "This should give all of us confidence in our preparations for future events, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games."
