NEW YORK (September 28, 2016) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has found Montreal Impact midfielder Hernán Bernardello guilty of embellishment in the 55th minute of Montreal’s match against the New York Red Bulls on September 24 (VIDEO). Bernardello has been issued an undisclosed fine for his actions.

Infantino arrives in Cairo for CAF Extraordinary General Assembly

​FIFA President Gianni Infantino has arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, for the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly scheduled for Thursday, 29 September 2016.

He touched down on the morning of Wednesday, 28 September 2016 and was met on arrival by a CAF delegation led by its President, Issa Hayatou. The delegation included members of the CAF Executive Committee and officials of the Egyptian Football Association.

KWESE FREE SPORT LAUNCHES IN RWANDA

​Econet Media has launched its 24 hour, free-to-air all-sport channel in Rwanda. This channel joins another recently launched one in Kenya as one of the fully owned Kwesé channels. Kwesé's premium sports programming is also available in a number of markets in sub-Saharan Africa including Ethiopia, Senegal, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Seychelles, Congo DRC, Benin, Togo, Uganda, Ghana, Angola and Tanzania on affiliate channels. A further five countries are currently planned for this year and the company has already licensed more than 10 other countries to receive Kwesé premium content.

First Golf Course underway in Dodoma

Tanzania People's Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Club is finalising plans to construct the first ever golf course in the country's capital of Dodoma.

The move is the fifth phase government's idea to ensure all its institutions and ministries shift to Dodoma before the year 2020.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the TPDF Lugalo Club chairman, Brigadier General Michael Luwongo said that Dodoma has been the top priority and they have already secured a 250-hectre land in Dodoma for the intended modern course.

Ghana to host 2018 African Women’s Championship

Ghana has been selected to host the 2018 African Women’s Football Championship.

The announcement was made in Cairo, Egypt during an executive meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) meeting this week.
​
Ghana will be represented by the Black Queens who are known to be the first team to qualify Ghana to the senior FIFA competition.

ICC announces appointment of William Glenwright as Head of Global Development

​The ICC today announced the appointment of William Glenwright to the role of Head of Global Development. Glenwright joins the ICC from his current role at World Rugby as GM Asia and Oceania and will take up his post towards the end of the year.


Glenwright will lead cricket’s game and market development which has a focus on more competitive teams, more people playing and better cricket ‘systems in more member countries. He will also assume responsibility for growing the game in new territories, particularly USA and China.

Debswana increases chess sponsorship

Debswana Diamond Company has increased sponsorship of the Debswana International Open Chess Championships to P150,000 from P80,000 last year.

The competition will be held at Botho University and played in three categories, the prestige, open and ladies sections. On top of local players, the competition is expected to draw participation of players from neighbouring countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Malawi.

Arm Wrestling has been introduced in Ghana as the 40th sporting discipline under the National Sports Authority (NSA) on Tuesday.

The new Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation is headed by sports broadcaster, Charles Osei Asibey and they have already organized competitions in Accra and Kumasi.

In the days preceding the kick-off of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016, the tournament’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) has announced the completion of all tournament preparations, indicating the Kingdom’s readiness to host the region’s first-ever FIFA women’s event. ​NEW YORK (Tuesday, September 27, 2016) – Houston Dynamo forward Mauro Manotas was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 29th week of the 2016 MLS season.


The 21-year-old scored a hat-trick to lead the Dynamo to an impressive 3-1 victory over the Portland Timbers at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday. The hat-trick was the first of Manotas' MLS career and the sixth in Dynamo franchise history. Manotas has four goals and one assist in his last six starts for Houston with the club compiling a 3-1-2 record in that time span (West #10, 32 points, 7-11-11 record).

The three days training aims at improving officiating in swimming, develop and increase participation in the sport and according to the President of Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo association, Rev. George Spilsbury-Williams the training is an opportunity for them in continuing the association’s development stride.

FA Communications Director also told journalists that Kwesi Nyantekyi has everything that it takes to win one of the two slots and his popularity keeps on souring day by day. He was also happy that one of the candidates dropped from the race.
