​The Bretagne Classic, a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Tour single day classic, takes place tomorrow and NTT Pro Cycling will have a mostly young and talented lineup at the start.

RENNES, France, August 24, 2020/ -- The Bretagne Classic will be a tough 247km test on the rolling roads around Brittany. Usually a race that a classics rider like Michael Valgren or Edvald Boasson Hagen would target, this year with the change in calendar and Tour de France starting on Saturday, we could see a very different and open race at Bretagne.

​It didn’t take Karsten Warholm long to remind the sporting world that the 400m hurdles world record is under assault each time he steps on the track. Even in this coronavirus pandemic-shortened season, when competitive opportunities are at premium. He just makes them count.

At the EBS Herculis Meeting in Monaco, the 24-year-old Norwegian scorched to a 47.10 performance in his first 400m hurdles race in more than 10 months.

The proposal gives hope to players who are eligible for multiple countries but fell out of favour at their first national team, where they are bound after just a single minute of playing time in a competitive game.

  • Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele face battle from six more sub-2:05 runners in elite men’s race
  • World record holder Brigid Kosgei among six sub-2:20 athletes in elite women’s race 
The Virgin Money London Marathon today confirmed the full fields for the historic elite men’s and women’s races on Sunday 4 October.
The elite men’s race - headlined by the greatest marathon runners in history, Eliud Kipchoge (KEN) and Kenenisa Bekele (ETH) - will include eight athletes who have run sub 2:05 marathons, including Mosinet Geremew (ETH) and Mule Wasihun (ETH) who were second and third respectively at the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon.

Japanese companies are reportedly split over whether the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games should be held next year, according to a survey.
A total of 12,857 companies participated in an online survey conducted by Tokyo Shoko Research between July 28 to August 11.
According to news agency Kyodo, 27.8 per cent said they wanted the Games to be cancelled while 25.8 per cent were in favour of a second postponement.
Nearly half remain in favour of the Games taking place as planned, with 46.2 per cent saying they hope for the event to take place in some form in 2021.
Organisers have repeatedly stressed that if the Olympics and Paralympics cannot take place in 2021, the Games will be cancelled.
The reasoning for the companies’ views was not disclosed.

New Role Will Oversee League’s Business and Basketball Development Initiatives Across the Continent

NEW YORK, United States of America, August 10, 2020/ -- The National Basketball Association (NBA) (www.NBA.com) today named Victor Williams CEO of NBA Africa, effective Aug. 17, 2020, it was announced by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Williams, an accomplished investment banking executive with extensive experience growing businesses across the U.S. and Africa, will be based in the league’s Johannesburg office and report to NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum.

In this newly-created role, Williams will oversee the league’s basketball and business development initiatives in Africa and will be responsible for continuing to grow the popularity of basketball and the NBA across the continent through grassroots development, media distribution, corporate partnerships, and more.

For the last five years, Williams served as the Executive Head of Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), Africa Regions for Standard Bank Group, where he oversaw the strategy, execution and financial performance for Standard Bank’s business with corporate, sovereign and institutional investor clients in 19 countries across sub-Saharan Africa. In this pan-continental role, Williams was responsible for growing a wide range of business lines across Africa, including global markets, investment banking and transactional products and services, and helped lead Standard Bank’s expansion into Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
