Pyeongchang 2018 hails performance

The Pyeongchang 2018 Organising Committee (POCOG) has said its staging of the 2018 winter Olympic Games will result in a balanced budget, as International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach stated that the event has brought the winter Games to a “new level”.

Pyeongchang 2018 concluded yesterday (Sunday) and POCOG president Lee Hee-beom said the Games has broken the unwritten rule that major sporting events tend to end with high levels of debt.

Simona Halep Returns to WTA World No.1

Simona Halep has returned to WTA World No.1 today, February 26, extending her stint at the top spot to 17 weeks. The Romanian became the 25th player in WTA history to earn the No.1 ranking on October 9, 2017.

The journey to the men’s ICC World T20 2020 gets underway in Argentina this month with the first of 12 regional qualifiers taking place as the International Cricket Council confirmed an improved qualification process for the event.

In all, 61 teams will compete in 12 regional qualification groups during 2018 across five regions – Africa (3 groups), Americas (2), Asia (2), East Asia Pacific (2) and Europe (3). The top 25 sides from these will then contest five regional finals in 2019 with seven progressing to the ICC World T20 2020 qualifier.

The provisional entry lists for the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018, which take place from 1-4 March, are now available.

The entries, as at 25 February, are now available via the athletes page on the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018 mini-site where users can quickly search and browse all 632 athletes from 144 teams entered in the 17th edition of the IAAF's second largest event.

WAFU ‘B’ Women’s Cup: Ghana shock host Cote d’Ivoire to win title

Ghana were crowned champions of the WAFU ‘B’ Women’s Cup after beating host Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in the final on Saturday at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Abidjan.

Defender Janet Egyir scored the only goal after two minutes, as the Ghanaians avenged for their opening loss to Ivorians by the same scoreline.

Mercy Tagoe makes history with Black Queens

Mercy Tagoe, the acting coach of the female senior national team, the Black Queens has made history for being the first female coach of the team, to win a trophy at the just ended West Africa Football Union (WAFU) B tournament in Cote D’ Ivoire.

The Black Queens needed a lone goal from Janet Egyir to beat host Cote D’ Ivoire, in the finals of the tournament, which saw Nigeria also defeating Mali by 2:1 to place third.

ZIMBABWE have recalled Sean Williams and Cephas Zhuwao for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which will take place in Bulawayo, Harare and Kwekwe from March 4-25.

Williams and Zhuwao were not named in the initial 15-player squad, but have been included in place of Ryan Burl and Tarisai Musakanda following the tour of Sharjah where Zimbabwe lost the five-match series against Afghanistan by 4-1.
