Unheralded and relatively a newcomer in the quarter mile elite class; South Africa’s Wayde Van Niekerk ran a personal best and a new National Record on Saturday at the IAAF, Adidas Diamond League meet in New York, beating all comers including veterans like Chris Brown of the Bahamas, Tony Mcquay of the US and Jeremy Wariner of the USA to name a few with a time of 44.24 seconds.
Van Niekerk who has a personal best of 20.19 seconds in the 200 meters, joins a now growing elite team of sprinters from South Africa that includes the likes of Anaso Jobodwana who is the National record holder in the 200 meters.

It is safe to say that van Niekerk will be a force to reckon with in Beijing this summer and Rio, Brazil next year (2016) at the Olympic Games.
