Former Orlando Pirates striker Jerry Sikhosana believes it would be unfair to blame head coach Eric Tinkler for the club’s poor showing this season.
Tinkler failed to win a single trophy last season, despite reaching the Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup finals, prompting a large portion of the club supporters to call for his head.
“You cannot fault Tinkler. When one looks at the many matches Pirates played last season‚ since they were also campaigning in the CAF Confederation Cup‚ it becomes easier to understand why their season became what it was,” Sikhosana told The Sowetan.
“Fatigue took its toll on players and they lost key players such as Oupa Manyisa and Happy Jele to injuries – therefore blaming the coach is rather unfair.”
