Marathon Record holder for Sierra Leone; Idrissa Kargbo who is currently in Houston Texas USA, will open up the 2016 season at the Chevron Houston Marathon as his first race of the season on Sunday January 17th 2016. Idrissa who is a veteran of the New York, London and Cape Town, South Africa Marathons as well as winner of the 2013 Sierra Leone Marathon and the 2015 Liberia Marathon is hoping to compete as the first Sierra Leonean in a Marathon race at an Olympic Games in Rio Brazil this summer.
Sierra Leoneans in the Houston Texas area have rallied around Idrissa to help see him realize his dream so he can also put a smile on the face of his countrymen and women who have suffered a lot in recent years from a variety of unfortunate situations that includes the recent scourge of Ebola as well as years of a horrible civil war back in the 1990’s. Prominent amongst these are Mr. Mohamed Bah a Nollywood Actor a longtime resident of Houston Texas, who has created an Initiative called ‘The Sierra Leone 2016 Olympic Support Group’ which will help to fundraise amongst Sierra Leoneans and beyond to support athletes training towards representing Sierra Leone at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil.
Mr. Mohamed Bah and Mr. Leslie Koroma Sr. the Founder and CEO of African Sports Media Network parent company of African Sports Monthly Magazine have been able to solicit the support of Finish Line Sports of Sugar Land Texas to sponsor Idrissa’s run on Sunday at the Houston Marathon which they are gladly doing.
